Backpacking can get expensive, but here are some easy ways to keep that costs down.
As pack weights get lighter and going into the wilderness gets safer, backpacking also is getting more and more expensive. How do you save money without giving up the ultralight equipment and safety gear? Let’s look at a few different ways.
Backpacking in the most remote places has become much safer now that there are personal locator beacons. One I recently saw advertised lets you call for help to 911 and family or friends at the touch of a button. It will even locate you on Google maps so others can see exactly where you are. Of course, at almost $200 for the device plus an annual fee of $100 per year for the service, it isn’t cheap.

It nearly always pays to get cancellation cover for your holiday trip abroad. All
at the same time that you booked your holiday, which could be several
months before the actual trip. That way, cover would be provided for a
range of events, such as unexpected serious illness to the policy
holder, travelling companion and quite often, illness or worse of a
close relative which results in you having to cancel your trip. Whilst
on the subject of cancellation, do check that the same level of cover
extends to curtailing or cutting short your trip and also look out for
holiday abandonment, which is closely linked to cancellation, for when,
after a set period of delay at your departure airport or seaport , your
policy offers you the option of not continuing your trip and being
reimbursed for your costs up to a specified limit. So the best advice
is that travel insurance
should not be relegated to a ?necessary evil’ purchased just before
your travel but should be considered as a fundamental pre-requisite to
protect your holiday investment.

Winter backpacking can be either an adventure or an ordeal, depending on how good you are at staying warm.
We were both thirteen years old and backpacking in Michigan without adults (times were different back then). Camping miles from the nearest road, in a single-wall pup tent, we tried not to move too much, because doing so resulted in a shower of icy crystals raining down on us - the frozen condensation from our own breath. When we got up that morning, the thermometer read ten or eleven degrees below zero.

Pets have always been a source of entertainment for people and gradually the emotional attachment make them a part of the family.
Traveling to distant places without them therefore makes family members worried about their well-being and safety, so many people nowadays prefer to take pets along rather than leaving them to stay alone at home.
Some of the tips that can be helpful for air travel with pets are:
1. Vaccination copies - Do not forget to carry some extra copies that verify the vaccination of your pets. It would be a good idea to keep one with yourself and put the other one in the carrier of your pet.
